Sale of Land.—An agree ment for the sale anil purchase of the unsold I lots of the old Recreation Ground, Kauaeranga Creek, containing 150 I acres 10 perches, between the Council and G. Walker, was received from Mr J. A. Miller. The Mayor and Crs. j Davey and Wood were appointed to j sign the agreement. i Dr. J. 11. Bond wrote drawing at- ! tention to the bad state of the road \ in Lower Sealey street. The Mayor stated that this was but one of several letters of a similar nature, and he moved that the matter be referred to the General Purposes Committee. The General Manager of Railways wrote that the question of placiug fences and lamps at Shortland and Grahamstown stations would be considered. A complaint was received from Mrs Cubiss, through Mr Clendon, to the effect that, the Council had, without her knowledge and consent, made a road across her property between Albert and Broad streets. The forming and excavating has caused a slip, down which rain water runs and floods her dwelling-house. Mr Clendon asked what the Council intended to do, as he had instructions to obtain redress. Amalgamatipn of Local Bodies.— The Mayor moved the resolution, of which In. had given notice, suggesting the appointment of a special committee to confer with the County Council with a view to effecting an amalgamation of the local bodies. Cr. Badford seconded the motion.—-Cr. Foy proposed that the matter be postponed and discussed by a fuller meeting of the Council. He advised caution in approaching the question, and said that the Council should go into the matter and satisfy themselves of the wisdom oi the step before committing themselves.—The Mayor said that the appointment of a special committee would not commit the Council at all. Cr. Trerabath thought the motion pre- : mature and waste of time, and ad- : vised waiting until the Government of , Local Bodes Bill had been considered : in Parliament.—Cr. Wood agreed with : the former speaker, and thought that ' the appointment of a special com- \ mittee might imperil the dignity of E the Borough Council in case the ' County Council snubbed them.—Cr. ( Davey was in favour of the proposed j amalgamation, but advis_d that the j matter be postponed pending the pass- i ing (or otherwise) of the Government « of Local Bodies Bill.—The Mayor did ] not think his motion premature, and j stated that whilst regretting the at- 1 titude of the majority of the coun- « cillors, ho would still do his utmost to 1 forward the amalgamation scheme. ] On a show of hands the motion was < lost, the Mayor and Cr. Radford vet- j mg for the motion, and Crs. Wood ' Trembath, Menzies, Foy, and Davev i against, ' , The Mayor moved a motion of which : he_ had given notice, iv favour of ap- j pointing members of the Meat and i ."Jilk Inspection Committee annually ! —Cr. Trembath seconded, and the mo- : tion was carried unanimous. Various accounts were pas^-i f or paymont, and the meeting then ter- ' minated.
