Drunkenness.—A respectable looking elderly woman named Georgina Denham (second o:Sencc) was lined 10/ or 48 hours. A prohibition order was granted against defendant under the Licensing Act for City, Eden, Parnell and Manukau.—Mary Whittingham, charged with being drunk in Albert street yesterday, promised to go back to the Wade to-day. She was convicted and discharged. Fighting in Queen Street. —William Carroll and Jas. Taylor were charged that they did use' threatening behaviour iv Queen street on 12th June, whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned. Carroll pleaded not guilty. Taylor said he struck Carroll in selfdefence, lie first, annoyed him by asking for 1/.—Constable Oliphant said about 6.30 last evening both of the accused indulged in a fair fight at the corner of Queen and Customs St. He arrested both men. One was as bad as the other.—His Worship said the whole affair was evidently caused by Carroll. He would be fined 20/, or the alternative of three days' imprisonment. The summons against Taylor was dismissed.

Drink and Theft.—Jas. McLeod Douglas was charged with being found drunk at Ellerslie on 12th June. He pleaded guilty. He was further charged that at Ellerslie on 12th June he stole one bottle of wine, value if, and a bottle of whisky, value 5/, the property ot ('has. Cowan. Accused .said that, he knew nothing about it. He was not accountable, for what he was doing; he was very sorry. He had his passage paid to go to tho Thames this afternoon. —Mrs Cowan, of the Harp of Erin Hotel, gave evidence as to the theft; also Constable Sherman, stationed at Ellerslie, who found one of the bottles on accused. —■ Accused said his only trouble was drink. He pleaded to be. let go, and he would not touch auy more drink-

His Worship convicted accused, and sentenced him to 14 days' imprisonment on the charge of stealing the wine and whisky. On the charge of drunkenness he, was convicted and discharged.

Disobeying Commands. — Alfred Green was charged that on 12th June,, at Auckland, he disobeyed the lawful commands of Hugh Munro, the captain of the barque Lake, Erie, lie pleaded guilty. He said that he wanted to be paid off; there would only be more trouble when they got to sea.— Captain Munro said accused had signed an agreement for throe years. He was not willing to let him go. He asked that the man should be kept in prison until the ship went to sea.— His Worship fined accused 40/ and costs 7/, or the alternative of 14 days, and made an order that he be placed on the ship when she. sails.

A Double Charge.—Hans de Vaies, another seaman on the Lake Erie, admitted being guilty of disorderly conduct while drunk- in Quay street on 12th June. He was further charged with damaging a coat, the property of Constable Fitzgerald, to tho extent of 12/6. Accused said he knew nothing about, the latter charge.—Constable: Fitzgerald said accused was quarrelling with on old woman in Quay St last night.—For being drunk amf disorderly His Worship fined accused 10/, or tlie alternative of 4S hours' imprisonment: and on the second charge he was ordered to pay 12/6 or 3 days' imprisonment.
