AUCKLAND CITY ELECTION.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—The question occupying the attention of the electors of Auckland City at the present time is, 'Who shall represent us at the forthcoming election?' Would it not be well to look round and search for men of sterling worth, business capacity, and force of character? We have always the choice of unsuccessful men who aspire to political fame on the ground, many of them, of their utter in-
abiliiy to manage their own affairs. What we want is men of energy and persistence who have the means and leisure at their command to devote to the interests of this great colony, and who are not likely to be actuated by seltish motives or whose great ambition is to pocket the honorarium. Might I suggest that Mr J. H. Witheford, of Calliope Dock fame, be requisitioned "to stand for Auckland City? Mr Witheford has proved himself a man of forceful character and untiring energy. He deserves well of the citizens of Auckland, and they would make a wise choice were they fo secure his services as one of their representatives. Hoping that steps 'will be at once taken to obtain Mr Witheford's consent to stand,—l am, etc.,
A CITY ELECTOR.
