POLICE COURT.
At the Police Court this morning, before Mr H. S.. Wai-dell, S.M., Mary Jane Akroyd pleaded guilty to a breach of the infant Life "Protection Act, 1896, by removing an infant from her registered house without informing the police and obtaining- the Inspector's authority. Defendant pleaded ignorance, stating that she had misunderstood the regulation. Sergeant Clarke said it was very essential that the police should keep the run of aiJ the boarded out children. His Worship recorded, a conviction and discharged the accused on payment of- 7s costs. A similar charge against Mary Elizabeth Rose was dealt with in the same manner. Elizabeth Ann Heffron was fined 20s or seven- days for drunken* ness, and Bernard McDonald, a prohibited person, was fined . 20s and costs, or seven days, for being found on licensed premises. Charles James Cater, .for using threatening language, was bound over in one surety of £50 to keep the peace for one month, and a prohibition order for Auckland city and suburbs was issued against him. Pour lit tip boys. named John Madfor.d. Gordon Hood, Charles Gloski and William Hooton were severely reprimanded by the magistrate for trespassing on tha railway line neai* the entrance to the Parnell tunnel. The boys were re* minded that they were liable to a fine of £10 a-piece, but they would be discharged on promising never to tres-, pass on the line again. The promise was'readily given. A charge against Reuben Conolly of assaulting Alfred Dare, was heard yesterday afternoon and dismissed. Dr. Laishley appeared for the prosecution, and Mr Baume foff the defence.
