AUCKLAND AMATEUR OPERA CLUB.
The annual meeting of the Auckland Amatexir Opera Club was held last evening in the National Associations Rooms, Queen-street, Mr Geo. M. Eeid presiding. The annual report read by Mr P. R.-Dix stated that the production of 'Les Cloches' had been a most successful one. The expense had been heavy snd the surplus was small, but the properties were to the good, and remained a valuable asset. The credit balance was stated to be about £105, tut the exact amount could not be given, preparation of the balancesheet having been unavoidably deferred owing^ to the treasurer being in the country. It was stated that arrangements had been made to play 'Dorothy' in the ensuing season, arrangements having been made whereby the whole of the scenery, properties, and dresses used by the Wellington Amateurs are obtained in exchange for one of the operas previously played in Auckland. .
The election of officers resulted:— Patron, His Excellency the Governor; president, Mr G. M. Reid; secretary, Mr Chas. Chambers; . committee, Messrs A. Coutts, G. Campbell, E. Young, A. Murphy, G. Tudehope, and Twiname. •
Mr A. Coutts proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the retiring secretary, Mr P. R. Dix, for his past services. Mr Dix had been a hard working and painstaking officer, and had done a great deal for the club, but he did not see his way to stand for re-election owing to his professional engagements requiring his undivided attention.
Mr Geo. Campbell seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously, and suitably acknowledge by Mr Dhc.
The customary vote of thanks to the ouitgoing officers and to the prosiding chairman brought the meeting to a close.
