EASTER SERVICES.

Yesterday Easter services were held at many of the churches in the city. At St. Mary's, Parnell, the building was tastefully decorated. Archdeacon Clark celebrated early Communion. There were other celebrations at 7 and 11 o'clock, the Rev. G. Mac Murray and the Rev. J. E_. Davis administering the Communion. The vicar conducted morning and evening service, and the Rev. R. E. Comins addressed a large gathering of children in the afternoon.

Three celebrations of Holy Communion were held at. St. Paul's in the morning. The building was decorated with flowers, ferns." and greenery. In the evening the Rev. Campbell conducted the service.

At St. Mark's, Remuera, four services were held. Holy Communion was celebrated at 8 and 11. ■ The Vicar, Rev. W. Beatty, preached in the morning on 'Our Hidden Light.' Afternoon service was conducted by the Rev. H. D. A. Major, for the last time prior to his departure for Waitara.

St. Matthew's Church was beautifully decorated. Prayers at each service were read by the curate. At the morning service, at which Lady Ranfurly and a party from Government House were present, the Vicar, the Eev. L. PitzGerald, preached upon the. words: 'This is the day of the Lord; we will rejoice and be glad in it.' A children's service was conducted in the afternoon, and the vicar again preached in the evening. At St. Sepulchre's Church Holy Communion was celebrated three times. Each of the services was largely attended. The morning service was conducted by the. Eev. Campbell, and the evening service by the Primate, who preached from the text, 'And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.'

At All Saints' Holy Communion was celebrated three times, there being in all 259 communicants. There was a large congregation at the 11 o'clock service. The morning and evening services were conducted by the Eev. E. M. Adous. The church was decorated with ferns, palms, and flowers.

At the Church of the Holy Trinity, Devonport, Holy Communion was celebrated by the vicar at six, seven, and eight in the morning, and at ten matins were said. At eleven full choral service' was celebrated. The evening service was largely attended. The church was decorated with grasses, ivy. and flowers. At St. Patrick's Cathedral masses were celebrated by the Eev. Fathers Croke and McKillop, S.P. Solemn High Mass was held at eleven, the Very Eev. Dean O'Eeilly, of the Thames, assisted by Fathers Croke and Camp, being the celebrant. The choir rendered Gounod's 'Messe Solennelle,' the soloists being Miss C. Lorrigan, Mesdames Hiscocks and Casier, and Messrs. Parish, Casier, and Lonergan. Mr J. Hartwell presided at the organ, and Mr Hiscocks conducted. Vespers were sunff by Father Kehoe. The ■ cathedral was crowded at each service. At the Church of the Sacred Heart the services were well attended. At early mass there was a large number of communicants. At the late mass Hadyn's 'Imperial' was sung by the choir, the' soloists being Misses Tole, Kearney, Lynch, and Darby, and. Messrs. Lowry aud Whelan. Dr. Egan, 0.5.8., conducted the services. Easter services were held at Knox Church, Parnell, the Eev. H. Kelly •conducting. Both morning and evening services were well attended, and the sermons were listened to with great attention. At each service the Easter anthem, 'Awake up, my Glory,' was rendered, and at the evening offertory Mr D. Crawford sang 'Hosannaji in the Highest.'
