LATE RACING.

AUCKLAND RACING CLUB AU-

TUMN MEETING

The course proper outside the hurdles was thrown open by Mr Hill at Ellerslie /this morning, but the rain had made it very heavy. There was a large muster of horses on the course, but no watch breaking- was attempted. About the best work of the morning was done by Waiorongomai and Auld Reekie. St. Innis was of no use to the first named over a strongly run seven furlongs, and Auld Reekie beat St. Ursula, over a mile run in good time. Rex and Hylas bowled over a- mile. Uoth of these geldings are in splendid trim. Red Lancer worked, but he moved dottily. Faugh-sV-ballagh was treated to an easy task, while Battleaxe, Okoari, Douglas, and Oingo got through serviceable work. Rosella looks none the worse for her trip, and she has furnished and improved all round. She did easy work; so did Explosion and Miss Emmy. Tauhei, Favona, Brilliant, Bluejacket, Coronet, and. Eton were apportioned good useful work. St '.Peter ran five furlongs, but it is plain he is not himself.

It is given out that Red Lancer is an unlikely starter for the Easter Handicap.

The jumping horse Cairo arrives from Napier by the s.s. Flora, this

evening

Speculation on the Easter Handicap is at a complete standstill, but Battleaxe and Douglas are quoted nominal favourites.
