FIRE AT GREYMOUTH.

GREYMOUTH, this day
Two fires occurred here last night. First a cottage was burnt to tlie ground. Second, .a fire on Mawhera Quay totally destroyed Scliaers furniture store. It extended to the Wharf Hotel on one side, and Ingal's store on the other. Both places were almost destroyed. The brigade worked splendidly. The. damage is much in excess of the insurance. The insurance is: Wharf Hotel, North German, £250; Northern, .£100; Imperial, £300; Sun, £200: Phoenix, £100: Alliance, £200. Furniture, £100 in the Phoenix, £100 on stock. Schaef, £200 on stock in Phoenix; £100 on building, and £300 on photo appliances, also in the Plioenix (half of the amount is re-in-sured. Ingal's building, £100, and stock £200 in the Commercial.
