Vagrancy.—Alau.. Osborne pleaded not guilty to a charge of being an idle and* disorderly person and having insufficient lawful means of support. Dr. Laishley ai - for the defence. The Bench, after hearing evidence on. both sides, recorded a conviction and sentenced the accused to 14 days' hard labour. The warrant, however, was ordered to be suspended for 14 days to allow the accused an opportunity, to leave the city. False Pretences.—A young mail named William Thomas Jackson pleaded guilty to obtaining a pair of boot's from Francis Conway by false orefences. Sergeant Clarke explained that the accused told the prosecutor that he w-as working. at the Kauri Timber Company's mills, and on the strength of this assertion he obtained credit for the boots. As a matter of fact he was not in employment at all at the time. A sentence" of 14 days' hard labour was imposed. Brevities.—Percy Smith was fined 20/, m default 48 hours', hard labour, for behaving in a riotous manner in a public place.—Alexander Christie was fined 5/, with 7/ costs, for driving round a corner at other than a walking pace.—Two first offending drunks were discharged with a caution. Remanded Cases.—Robert Harris, a coloured man, charged with wounding Joseph Winter with a pocket knife, was further remanded till the Bth mst., Winter being still in the Hospital. Dr. Laishley appeared for the accused.— Gharles Anderson, charged with absconding- from his bail at Aratapu while awaiting trial on a charge of false pretences, was remanded to iahi, to appear there on the Bth inst. —Morne Campbell, Irene Stewart, *lary_Dopley, Annie Woods, and Isabella Blank were charged with having committed breaches of the Licensing ££ \, The CRSes were adjourned till the Sth inst.
