.... .. , . , I The steamer Alki, which arrived at, Seattle on December 20, from Ala«k^': Srought meagre particulars of an aval- ! anche on the ChUkoot Pass in wUch at least six persons were lulled. Five bodies had been recovered up to the tune Of despatching the news. , It appears that the slld« occurred on December 9, at Crater Lake, about one mile beyond the summit on the take Lindeman side. j . A Mrs Darmig, one of the victims was journeying to meet her husband at Lake Lindeman and she had arranged to join him with her two son;:, who had almost

reached manhood

Contrary to the advice of old .timers, who realised that the trip was a dangerous one in view of the recent storms, the party set out with light outfits. It was storming hard when they crossed the summit, but they succeeded in reaching' Crater Lake, where th,e blizzard forced them to camp, although it was but seven miles to their destination.

While encamped there tons of ice and snow, mixed with rocks and timber, swept over them, evidently without warning, and went down the valley, leaving them buried under several feet of hard snow. Theijr bodies were found three days later by searching' parties. 'The bodies, strangely enough, were not bruised in the least.
