WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Waitemata County Council was held to-day, there being in attendance Messrs Chas. O'Neill (chairman), Reynolds, Mackay, Bruce, Matiield, Wilson, Cochran and lSewman.

Finance. —The monthly accounts, amounting to £105 4s (id, were considered and passed for payment. The overdraft was stated to be £1232 16s Id. The Chairman said the rates were nearly all in

Leave of Absence. —Cr. Reynolds was granted three months' leave of absence.

Taupaki Roads.—Mr A. W. Cottle asked the Council to give the road from Hunter Junction westward on the Taupaki Road a light formation for a distance of 20 or 30 chains. Deferred until next meeting.

Upper Waiwera. —Mr Peter Boyer wrote that the bridge leading to the grave road was in a bad state. Referred to the Engineer with power to act.

Cobbler's Hill.—Mr A. Sinton asked the Council to do something to Cobbler's Hill while the weather was fine. Deferred until next meeting.

Northcote. —Mr J. McKerras wrote that he had purchased two allotments next to the Northcote pound reserve. He asked for permission to fence it and part of the road adjoining the cliff. The request was granted.

Hanger. —Mr H. A. Buscorabe's 'appointment as ranger for the Henderson and Waikumete districts was accepted. The Council agreed no other appointment be made at present.

Waikumete. —A petition was read from ratepayers of Waikumete ridiDg asking that a road be opened between the Waikumete post office and Davidson's railway crossing', a distance of about sixteen chains. Messrs W. Morgan and J. G- Mclntosh would give the land reuired for the Koad. It was resolved that the work be gone on with provided no compensation is claimed, for the land for the new road.

Bridle Track.—Mr W. N. Eendall asked the Council to make a bridle track to get to his section, lot G6, parish of \yaikumete. It would be a continuation of Parker's Eoad. The request was declined.

Claim.—Mr Chas. Tutt asked the Council to pay him £10. for a-ma.re who sustained injuries on the Waikuku bridge. He alleged the accident was due to the insecure condition of the bridge. The Council decided to disclaim all liability.

O'Neill's Point.—lt was agreed to spend £10 on metalling O'Neill's Point Road.

Birkenhead. —A deputation of settlers waited on the Council and complained of the danger to pedestrians und damage done to footpaths by persons cycling on the side-walks. It was agreed to ask the police to enforce section 139 of the Public Works Act 6f 1894, which renders offenders liable to a penalty of £3 for each offence.

Tenders. —The following tenders were accepted:—Carting metal, Takapuna, R. Carrie, Is 4M per cubic yard. Carting metal, Takapuna to Northcote, Win. Lovett, 2s 5d per yard. Carting metal, Takapuna to Birkenhead, Wm. Lovett, 3s 9d per yard. Carting scoria or broken metal Parkhurst Roads, John Kava.nagh, to Vercoe's farm, 2s Sd per yard; Tepua, 2s per yard; Fordyce's, 2s 6d • per yard; Craven's, 2s 9d per yard. Repairing road and carting scoria, Woodhill, Jas. Mackie, £-8 15s. Raising road and making ditches on Museum endowment, Woodhill, John Kavanairh, £ 14.
