EXTRAORDINARY STATEMENT AT THE PROHIBITION COUNCIL.
At the meeting of the Temper- ■ ance Convention of the Auckland g Prohibition Council, held in the m Central Mission Hall yesterday, .'-; Key. He added: 'If there are any A Anglicans present, I would like them - ; to remember what lam going to say ~ nOw if they forget the rest. If the ;- A Bishops of the Church of England are like some of. their Curates, they are .. a drunken lot. We have, not a thousand miles from Auckland, clergymen •;; of the Church of England who are picked up drunk and carried home : J by their parishioners.' Dr. Hoskings said further that these men were Given another chance, and allowed to preach. If such a thing happened ia -,;_' the Methodist Church the minister would not be allowed to occupy the pulpit the next Sunday. He explain- - ed that he did not wish it to be .-.'• thought that he was attacking the '/A: Anglican Church, he was merely stat- fling facts, and had no w-ish to attack creed or give.offence to the adherents A of the Church of England. Further on in his address Dr. Hosking said, but not in connection with the above ■ remarks, 'ft would be the. grandest thing for the temperance cause if a few of us were put into gaol because . we would get this hall tilled when j we came out again to address the...!-' public' He said they wanted a martyr or two to. rouse the public interest. \
