CHARGE OF ASSAULT AND ROBBERY.
■» At the Police Court this afternoon two men named Robert Stanton and Eobert Johnston Avere charged with, robbing, on December 26th. Charles Perrin of a purse containing about 33/, at the same time using personal violence. Mr Cotter appeared for Stanton; Mr Xapier for Johnston. Dr. Scott stated that Perrin called si his place on the 27th uit., bearing about his face and body marks of recent violence, caused most likely by kicks and blows. Charles Perrin. a Frenchman, residing in Rokeby-street. and describing himself as a tish-dealer. said that on the 26th uit.. in the evening, Stanton, met him and accused him of poisoning a dog. Words followed, and presently j witness was struck a blow on the ear, | being knocked down. He got up again j and saw Johnston for the first time; j the latter struck him in the face, and j soon afterward? both men assaulted j him, kicking aud knocking hixn down. i The last he remembered was Stanton I having hold of his (witness") coat j pocket, in which was his purse. 1 Afterwards he found that his purse i was gone, and he reported the matter jto the police. !
