WELLINGTON NOTES.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day
Commissioner Tunbridge, who has been making a tour of inspection of Tbe Otago Lake District, is expected back in Wellington about Wednesday next.
It is proposed to form a company in Wellington with a capital of ten thousand pounds to acquire the rights of Mr J. A. Bell, of Feilding, in an invention for raising ships by compres-
sed air. At the request of three Southern clubs a special meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association is convened to consider the action of Hie Appeal Council in respect to rules 15 and 10, and the advisableness of amalgamating the Appeal Council with 'the Management Committee. _ The Board of Conciliation having failed to bring about a settlement of tbe dispute iii the painting trade the question is 1o be taken to the Arbitration Court.
Considerable dissatisfaction js expressed in commercial circles with the alterations in telegraph word rates recently in trod need. The letters f.o.b. if written fob, tbe letters being connected arc charged as one word, but if divided by full stops as six words. There are similar distinctions in other matters, such as names of companies, which many leading mercantile men condemn as confusing.
