Insurance Against Loss on Condemned Meat.—A meeting of farmers and butchers was held in the Dundee Cattle Market recently, for the purpose of considering the question of protection against loss caused bytuberculosis. Hitherto the arrangement has been for the butchers to pay the auctioneer sixpence for every animal purchased, the money thus collected going to form an insurance fund; but at the meeting Mr T. H. Brown, president of the Master Butchers' Association, said the butchers considered it desirable for farmers to pay half the cost of the insurance, and he proposed that an arrangement be entered into whereby the farmers pay 4d and the butchers Id for every animal changing hands. This proposal was supported by Mr A. Hutcheson, vice-convener, of Perthshire, who. stated that, while be thought both parties should bear the loss jointly, it would be well for tne Scottish Chamber of Agriculture to be assisted, in order that legislation might be obtained. The motion was unanimously agreed to.
