On January 3rd a valedictory meeting was tendered to Mr G. Wilson, the popular teacher of the Ma.ta.kohe district school, who is removing to Totara North. Mr Ovens, sen., presided. Though the evening was wet there was a fair 'gathering. The following ladies and gentlemen contributed to the programme: Misses Per.dray, Agnes Davidson, J. Cooksey, and E. C. Cooksey, and Messrs Bertie Metcalfe, J. and T. Ovens, R, Smith, and P. Pheasant. The chairman, on behalf of the. elder scholars and friends, presented Mr Wilson with a handsome silver inkstand, suitably inscribed. Mr Wilson suitably responded. He has held the position of teacher at Matakohe for the last ten years, and as he took an active interest in religious and temperance work, his moral influence has been felt. „,■_>„'.,_;.
