THE SHAREMARKET.
The sha remarket, closed much firmer to-day, thus finishing up the year well. Several lines of Talisman changed hand at--1.1/9 with buyers at 11/0. Great Barrier shares also firmed being sold and still in request at 2/2. Advances took place in tho prices offered, for Waihi, Waitekauri, a.nd Alpha shares. Buyers of Waihis offered 93/0, of Waitekauris 31/6, and of Alphas 2/S. In the case of the Waihi shares it is an advance of 3/6 since yesterday, and Waitekauris rose 1/G. Bunker's Hill shares were also firmer, 1/6 being offered. In standard stocks sales of Northern Steam took place at 7/3. Buyers of National Insurance advanced 3d, and South British ..Gd. X.Z. Accident had inquiry at 23/6, and Auckland Gas at £14' 10/ and £10 5/ respectively. The Exchange re-opens on Wedm. .day morning, 4th January.
