TO CORRESPONDENTS.
Piscator (North Shore). — 1. The best haptika fishing ground within moderate distance of Auckland is that in the vicinity of Flat hock, Kawau. It is advisable to use a sandbag as anchor, as the bottom is_ extremely rocky. Early morning is a good time for hapuka fishing. 2. Shark oil is not quotable locally. 3. Accurate charts of the coast are obtainable at the Customs.
L.B. (Te Kopuru).—Certain earlier issues of American stamps have on the back a small square of vertical and cross lines similar to a small check. These are generally more valuable than stamps of the same date, colour, and price without the grill which corresponds to the ordinary watermark. The grill cannot, however, be seen by holding the stamp up to the light, but requires close examination, in which a magnifying class is most serviceable.
