WAITEKAURI.

j (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) PAEROA, this day. ; A steady advance is being made by | this company in the development oi ! the different sections of their property, and the coming year will probably witness some highly important discoveries at the Golden Cross and Te-ao-Marama sections. At the lattei i a main shaft has been sunk below Xo. 2 level, and that level has been cleaned up and enlai'ged, and j' driving on the Xos. 1 and 2 reefs has just commenced. This is practically a new mine, with a very large area and work of a permanent and systematic character has onl\ r been commenced At the Golden Cross section the Xo. 1 shaft is down 404 ft from the surface, or 4ft below Xo. 4 level. The chamber set is in position, the timbering of the shaft completed, and after sinking another Bft for a sumpt. crosscutting j for the lode at this level will be commenced. The drive on the reef at Xo. I 3 level is in 152 ft north and has been S carried for the month on a good class |of stone. Acrosscut. which was put in i 100 ft from the main crosscut proved that at-least ten feet of the lode was payable at that point. Xo. 2 rise from i this level is up 6ft, and has been ear- : ried upon a good class of quartz. The Xo. 2 level north is in 621 ft, and ia j now past the cave which was encoun--1 tered some distance back. The direction of the drive is now being turned around to get on the main body of quartz. Two stopes'are being worked at this level and are yielding ore of payable quality. At Corbetfs level the usual stoping has been done, and the ore from here sent to the Golden Cross battery. At the kiln, or Xo. 1 ! level below Corbetfs. the face is 1043 ; feet in and the lode still lives in the i drive, but there are indications that the cap of the reef is near at hand. As the reef has been got here 350 ft further north than Corbetfs level, it points to the probability that at the lower levei the lode will be met at increasing distances. North of the kiln level at the old Waitekauri claim the smithy level has been opened up and a rise from the Queen level is up 90ft. This is beino- continued through good payable stone which is wider than the riseThis will shortly hole through to the smithy level. At the battery the 10 bead of stampers is kept going wet. crushing and everything, connected with this system is kept separate and distinct, with the view of testing the process thoroughly. Mr It. Clarke, who for some time has been assisting Mr McLennan (who has resigned), has been appointed battery superintendent of the Waitekauri works, whilst Mr W. Birch took charge of the Golden Cross mine as manager on the 15th inst., vice Mr Rooney resigned. • BICYCLE TYBES LEAK. Hennihg undertakes to fix them or make no charge. Punctures, 1/. ■Factory:' Stanley-street, below Supreme Court.—(Ad.)
