RECENT EXHIBITS.
In Victoria Avenue S. J. Best and ' Co., of the Auckland Varnish Works, \ Cust6rhs-street East, have placed a j well got-up glass case containing the ! many articles the firm turn out. Varnish in long phials is displayed, also tins of varnish, Brunswick Black, terebine, waggon and carriage varnish, black lacquer and many other articles. The Parnell Convent Schools exhibits in Ranfurly Avenue specimens of needlework, also specimens of drawing \ work, writing, etc.. done in the schools. J SINGLE TAX. At the Auckland Single-tax bookstall the management point with pride to the spread of the movement by exhibiting an up-to-date primer, a first book of lessons for little political economists, printed in the Japanese language. CHICAGO ORGAN COMPANY. 1 In a fine large, space the Chicago ' Organ Company exhibit a number of new organs, handsomely finished in polished wood. The power and quality of the tone of the instruments are . admirable, and each has a full comple- : ment of stops. These irgans are very >
popular, for' theii'p rice brings them ■within the reach of every musician, and the Company do a large business in them. A chair is provided for musical visitors to the Exhibition to test the organs for themselves. The organs are exhibited through Messrs Hayman and Co.. the well - known local warehousemen. BRAESIDE COMPANY'S EXHIBT. In a large glass case situated near the one in which such a fine display of ostrich feathers is made in Vic-' toria Avenue are the exhibits of the Braeside Manufacturing Co. of Melbourne. These comprise shirts, collars, and are shown by that company's local representative, Mr Alexander Knight. This firm was established in 1363, and worked with varying success until ■ it. was purchased seven years ago by the present company. About 250 hands are now continuously employed by the company, work being confined entirely to the manufacture of shirts, collars, and cuffs. Connected with the factory is a large laundry for the important work of finishing the goods ready for the market, and in that department 60 hands are employed.
