NEWMARKET.
The annual statutory meeting1 of the -Newmarket Borough Council was hold yesterday, when there were present Messrs' J. M. Laxon (Mayor), AlcColl, Lee. Smerdon, and LumpKiu. I The flavor (Mr Laxon), wh;i ha& now- been elected for the fourth time, made the usual statutory declaration, and thanked the ratepayers for their confidence. i Mr W. Hogg, Town Clerk, read an office statement concerning the Borough Council's past year, in tho course of which he stated that during the year nine new houses had been .'•reeled, besides those in course of ;onstniction and several now building1. Waterpipes had been laid on to Glasgow Terrace and Boyle Crescent at <\ oust of £101. Drainage in Glasgow Terrace had been done to the extent of £24 12/6. and Eden street h.i.l been formed at a cost of .£2O. The Boroujji receipts, general account, were £1,1:-! JO/1, and the expenditure 1M,057 "■/. The waterworks account showed receipts £914 18/3. and the expenditure £784 14/7. The water loan interest account showed the receipts (rates) to have been £330 12/5, and the expenditure «£2B."> 12/4. The Sinking Fund receipts for the year were £80, and the. expenditure £100. During the year the footpaths in the Thorough had been tarred and sanded at. a cost of IMOI 2/0.
