The other day a fish pedlar's horse stopped in the street, and refused to stir an inch. The vendor began to belabour the beast with a stick, when an old lady put her head out of the window and exclaimed : ' Have you no mercy ?' * No, ma'am,' replied the pedlar, ' nothing but mackerel.'
