CITY COUNCIL.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the City Council was held last night, when there were present: — Crs. Trenwith (Acting Mayor), Kidd, Cairns, Patersoh, Beecroft, Courtney, Farrell, Masefield, 'Hewson, Stichbury, Grey, Julian, Baume, Hesketh, Jameson and White.-Library.—-Mr Alfred Kidd wrote offering to donate to the Library a number of the earliest; papers and statistics of New Zealand. The Librarian reported the documents would be a valuable addition to the Library.—lt was resolved to accept the donation with thanks. Drainage. —Mr P. F. Purcell wrote stating he had completed the erection of five houses at the corner of Pitt and Randolph Streets. He asked the Council to extend the sewer so that he might connect drains with it.—lt was resolved that the work be done. Church of Christ.—The officers of this church asked for a remission ot rates on their property, West-street.—-The letter was received as there was no building on the ground the time the rate was struck. The Acting-Mayor explained that the matter could be dealt with next assess? ment. Right-of-Way.—A. Hanna wrote stating the Assets Realisation Board wotild not recognise ar.y liability to keep the Glenside right-"'"- way in order for the future.— The letter was referred to the Streets Committee. Bella Vista.—A petition Avas presented by Cr. Courtney from the residents of Bella Vista Road praying that certain drainage be done.—Tlie petition was received and referred to the Streets Committee. Legal Committee.—This Committee reported as follows :—Letter from Colonial .Secretary re proposed alteration clause 10 dairies regulation : Your Committee has instructed that copy of letter be forwarded to contributing boroughs. Letter from Secretary Queen's Statue Committee re site for statue* Albert Park : Your Committee recommend that site, as shown on plan submitted by engineer and approved by Statue Committee, be adopted; and that the City Engineer 'be requested to place his services at the disposal of the Committee.—The report was adopted. Streets Committee.—The following report was read from the Streets Committee :—Letter from William Coleman re water trough, Symonds-street: Your Committee having visited has arranged for removal of trough to site opposite Wynyard Arms Hotel.—Petition from ratepayers, Shortland-street (Cr. Baume), re stand South British Insurance cerner: Your Committee recommends that reply in effect of Inspector's report be forwarded, and intimation that cab drivers have been warned as to use of bad language.— Memo, from Engineer re metalling Queenstreet: Your Committee recommends that I,oooyds of water boulder metal be obtained fot Queen-street. —The report was adopted.
