AUCKLAND FRUITGROWERS' UNION.
A meeting" of the Fruitgrowers' Union Executive Committee was held yesterday in the secretary's office, .Rutland-street, there being- present Messrs Kay (in the chair), Sharp, Lippiatt and Thompson.
It was resolved that the secretary write to the Agricultural Department to inquire whether it can supply any information respecting- the codlin moth eating- bird of Germany, which is stated to be effective in destroying1 this pest. The secretary intimated that he had sent two circular letters to each of the fruit salesmen in Auckland asking them to acquaint the Union of their views respecting- the necessity, for some substantial improvement in the present system of fruit-selling1 and general distribution. The g-eneral opinion was that the present state of affairs was very unsatisfactory to all parties concerned, but that, owing to the lack of unity amongst the auctioneers themselves, they were unable to take the initiative and make the desired reform. —It Was resolved by the Committee to invite the fruit salesmen to meet, the .members at an early date and lay before them the desire of the fruitgrowers in the matter.
