THE SOUTHLAND HOSPITAL.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
INVERCARGILL, this day
The Governor laid the foundation stone of the Victoria wing of the Southland Hospital to-day. The weather was splendid, and fully eight thousand people witnessed the ceremony, which was preceded by a procession in which the volunteers, Friendly Societies, Fire Brigades, and several bands took part. The addition will cost over £4,000, half of which was locally subscribed at the time of the Queen's Jubilee. This afternoon Hit Excellency opens the Agricultural Show, and he will be entertained nt a banquet in the evening. The day is observed as a general holiday.
