CAMBRIDGE ROOT SHOW
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday
The annual root show, under the auspices of the Walknto Fnrxnera* Club, was held In tho Public Hull yesterday. Notwithstanding the excessively dry season the roots .shown were fully up to the standard; indeed, most of them were larger than Utoiio exhibited last year, but they were hardly ns gocd in nuality. The poultry department was the smallest, and that was in a great measure due to the fact that many settlers have gone hi for the breeds that are good layers, which are ul.so good flyers, and .-on.sequently they keep their wingv; out, which of course renders them unfit for show. I believe the Club intends encouragingl this department at future shows', and it would bo n great help to our settlers if some of your Auckland breeders of poultry would send a few specimen exhibits. The dairy produce was but poorly represented, but the few exhibits that were staged were very good. Bread, calces, jams, and prestM'sed fruits were particularly good; indeed, the home baked bread 'and scones would be hml to boat. The following1 were the jitnges: Roots, Messrs Jns. Ryburn and .1.
