Claim for Damages. —An application Avas brought up in connection with the case Stephen E. Hughes v. Samuel D. Hanna and W. Boak, claim £50 for damages in connection with the recent incident in Hackett-street, Ponsbnby, when a fenceerected by the plaintiff on a disputed piece of ground adjoining the residences of the defendants was pulled down by the latter persons. Mr Hugh Campbell, on behalf of the plaintiff, appeared in support of a motion for further defence to be filed, in order to more fully specify the reasons why the defendants said the disputed land was a public road. Mr Theo. Cooper, on behalf of the defendants, consented to this, and the application of the plaintiff was granted, with two guineas costs, seven days being allowed in which to file further defence, in order to more specifically state the grounds on which the defendants said this was a public road. His Honor said that therefore the case would not come on at the June sittings of the Court, and would not be heard till the July sittings. TheHagey Institute.—ln reT. M. Harrison v. Cowart and others (of the Hagey Institute), claim £2,000 damages for alleged breach of contract, Mr Parr appeared in support of a motion for leave to serve writ of summons, etc., out of the colony.—His Honor granted leave as prayed, defences to be filed in Auckland within 35 days after service by defendants resident in Sydney or Melbourne, 42 days for those in Honolulu, and 60 days for defendants in California ; trial to be held at next sitting after expiration of those times. The question of costs was reserved. Kapai-Vermont G.M. Company.—ln the case Kapai-Vermont G.M. Company (limited) v. Gibbin and the same Company, time to file statement of defence was extended to June 30th.
