%. special to the 'Globe-Democrat' from Key West-says:--News has just reached 'Havana of the massacre ot fifty reconcentrados at Escambria. Permission was given to the reconcentrados at Santa Clara last Wednesday to return to their farms. They started and camped, at Escambria, erecting palm tents. To escape starvation the fugitives killed several out of a drove of cattle which the Spaniards had never been able to take to town, because they were so closely watched by insurgents. ' "This was the pretext for the massacre., On Thursday night a troop of Spaniards dashed into the camp, rode down the fleeing men, women and children, and slashed them to death. Very few escaped unharmed. Fifty were killed and mariy more wounded.
