PROPOSED FROZEN MEAT ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of gentlemen interested in the frozen meat industry was held at Wellington on May 30th. There were present, Messrs C. Pharazyn (runholuer), D. Sladdeu (Wellington Meat Export Company), C. Millwood (general manager of the Gear Company), F. W. Rutherford (of Nelson Bros.), W. Bidwill (grazier), Anderson (Longburn Freezing Company), A. de Brandon (Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce). Correspondence from the Christchurch Chamber was read, enclosing a copy of a resolution passed by that body in favour of the establishment of a meat freezing association of New Zealand, and pledging its support to the proposal, also correspondence from the London Frozen Meat Trade Association, urp-ing the formation of an association in the North and South Islands. The Christchurch Association suggested a conference of joint representatives to deal with insurance, freights, grades, etc. The Wellington Chamber of Commerce accordingly sent out circulars to persons interested in the frozen meat trade, and received favourable replies from F. Beetham, National Mortgage and Agr.-.cy Company, Mitchell and Company, Wellington Meat Export Company, Nelson Bros., North British and flawke's Bay Freezing Company, New Zealand Shipping Company, Wanganui Meat Freezing Company and others.
The Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce having explained the object of the meeting, Mr Pharazyn was elected Chairman, and after a lengthy discussion, resolutions wore passed expressing approval of the proposed formation of a General Association for New Zealand, with headquarters at Christchurch, and requesting the Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce to write to the Christchurch Association forwarding a copy of the resolutions, and asking for further information as to the intended scope of the Association, and the liability of members.
