OUR VOLUNTEERS.

There was an excellent attendance of the Auckland rille volunteer companies at the Drill-shed on Tuesday for inspection by Colonel PolePenton, Commander of tho New Zealand forces. Over three hundred volunteers were on parade, there being seven companies present besides the Medical Stall' Corps and the Garrison Hand. The corps which turned out were the Victoria Hi lies (under command of Captain W. 11. White), College Rifles (Captain Major), New Zealand Native Hides(Captain Montgomery), New Zealand Native Rifles, No. 2 (Captain Oakos), Queen's Own Rilles (Smith and Caughey's corps, under Lietits. Gower and Boyce), New Zealand Natives No. J{ (Captain Baume), Victoria Rilles No. 2 (Captain Chatfield), and the Medical Stall" Corps (under BrigadeSurgeon Lieutenant - Colonel Dawson). The Garrison Rand, under Bandmaster Hunter, played a series of musical selections. Lieutenant-Colonel Ranks, ollicer in command of the district, was in command of the battalion, ami the inspection was made by Colonel Pale-Pen ton, There were also present : Lieu tenant-Colonels Newall, Webb, Gordon and Major "Maddocks, members of the New Zealand Defence Commission and Captain Grant, District Adjutant, Colonel Penton, after the inspection, expressed to the ollicers his pleasure at the turnout. The three companies which had uniforms and arms (the Victorias, No. I Natives and College Hides) were siihsequently drilled by Ser-geant-Major Carpenter outside the Drillshed.
