RAILWAY RETURNS.

The annual railway returns show the total expenditure for the year to have been .L'B"»7,HH an against £789,054, being an increase of £68,137. The estimated revenue for the I' 2 months was £1,275,000, which has been exceeded by £101,008. The estimated expenditure was £822,127, but this was exceeded by £35,064. The figures quoted refer only to revenue and expenditure, and have nothing to do with the £200,00Q special vote for rolling stock, passed last session. The net revenue for railways is 3.f per cent, or one per cent, more than last year, the exact amount being this year £3 4s lOd per cent, last year £3 3s lOd.
