The W.C.T.U. meeting held on Wed nesday afternoon was well attended. An excellent report was given by Miss Powell on her work in the Thames and Te Aroha 'districts, resulting in the formation of a branch of.the Union at the Thames. The entertainment given under the auspices of the Church, of Christ Baud of Hope last evening in the Foresters' Hall was, as usual,-largely attended. Mr M. H. Hamilton presided, and Mrs Mitchell officiated as accompanist. Instrumental selections were given by Misses Aspanall and Muldoon, My L. J. Pegler, and Mastej Muldoon. An address on temperance was delivered by Mr T. L. Wilcock. Humorous readings were contributed by. Mrs McKenzie, " Photographic Studio ;" Mr C. B. King, "Popping the Question" Miss L. Bridgens recited " Billy Dumps," and Miss L. Kosser "Sabbath Bells." Songs were contributed as follows :"" Won't You Buy My Pretty Flowers," Miss Netta Anderf.on ; The Anchor's Weighed" and " Alice, Where Art Thou," Mr King, and "Pass Under the Rod," Miss Woodman. At the V.M.C. A. Lecture Hall last evening die Rev. J. Parker; of Beresford-street Congregational Church, gave a recital of lHckens' well-known "Christmas Carol." The entertainment Avas in aid of the funds of the Young Women's Christian Association, and was very well attended, Mr Thos. Peacock occupying the chair. The recital, which was entirely from memory, lasted nearly two hours, and was altogether a notable elocutionary feat. As Mr Kountree expressed it, when moving a vote of thanks to Mr Parker, "he drew back the; curtain on a charming story—an old story to most of us—and made the ...figures live! again, and move and have their being, so that the time slipped by unnoticed." The-•101st quarterly meeting of -the Auckland District A.O.F. was held in the Foresters' Hall, Karangahape Road, last evening, Bro. S. ,G. Lee, D.C.R., occupying the chair. The balance-sheet and] auditor's report were read and adopted, showing the funds of the Society to be in a healthy state, over £7,400 standing to the credit of the district funds. A matter of great importance to Friendly Society members was brought forward by'the delegate from Court Victoria, 6699," the military members of which, by order of the commandant .of the forces, are compelled to consult the military doctor, at great expense to the unfortunate individual who is prevented from accepting the services of the medical man for whom, he pays, contrary to the laws of the Order". The matter being of considerable importance to the members of the various orders in the colony', iti was referred to the Friendly Societies' Conference to deal with. A pleasing feature of the meeting was "the presentation to -P.D.C.K, Bro. Auger (Court City of Auckland), on behalf of the Auckland district, of a testimonial on his retirement from the position of .district trustee, after a period of service of twenty-four years. Bro. Anger suitably responded, and thanked the delegates for the present. Bros. Smith, Sehoh'eld, Sheppard, Neumegeu and Andrews were appointed a Committee for the revision of the laws, in conjunction with three members of the executive, - Go to Wallis and Caley for horse-covers that will last 3 seasons.—(Advt.);
