THE WANAKA.

The s.s. Wanaka arrived last evening from Calcutta and Singapore with a cargo of general Indian produce. Mr H. V. Austen, the purser, reports : —The Wanaka left Newcastle for Calcutta on October 7th, calling at Townsville on the 23rd, and at Singapora on October 27th. Leaving Singapore on November Ist, the vessel arrived at Calcutta on the 7th ult., landed consignments and loaded a full return cargo. Left Calcutta at 9.30 a,m. on the 27th, and reached Singapore on the 4th inst. Having taken in coal and cargo the vessel left Singapore at 3.45 p.m. on the 6th, and rounded Horsburgh light at 7.35 p.m. on the same day. Crossed the Equator in long. 106deg east at 8 a.m. next day. Sighted the Torres Strait entrance on December 17th, and signalled Thursday Island at 8.30 a.m., anchor was let go at 7 p.m. off Dalrymple Island and the Wanaka got under way again next morning and set a course for North Cape, which was passed at 9.20 p. m. on Tuesday, had Cape Brett abeam at 5.50 a.m. yesterday, and made harbour at 5.30 p.m. ■ experienced light winds and smooth sea from Calcutta to Table Island, thence fresh south-east winds and moderate sea till entering the Straits of Malacca, through which the usual squally weather prevailed; light variable winds prevailed till December 10th, when it came fresh from the westward for two days; light favourable weather prevailed to Torres Straits, thence southerly . winds and moderate sea to arrival.
