POLICE COURT.
YESTERDAY.

Drunk.—A first offender was convicted and discharged.—James McKibbon admitted his fourth oifence within six months, but pleaded eloquently that he might spend his Christmas out of gaol. The Bench, however, thought it would be better for him to retire to the seclusion of Mount Eden for two months. " Well, by Jove !" was all James could find to say to this.
Idle and Disorderly.—Mary Ann Dixon was sentenced to two, months' imprisonment for being aii idle and disorderly person, without visible lawful means of support. >
Dismissed.—William Beal was convicted of committing an indecent act within view of a public place, but as there were mitigating circumstances, the accused was discharged with a caution. A Young Horse.—Alfred Kelly pleaded not guilty to breaking in a horse in a public, street, and brought evidence to show that the horse had been broken in about seven weeks previously and bad been five or six times in harness. — The Bench dismissed the case, remarking, however, that the police were perfectly justified in taking action as they did, as from the precautions taken in harrtessing the animal it might easily have been thought that, it was being broken in..— Sergeant Clarke said several complaints had been made to the police about young horses beiim' broken in in the streets.
Adjourned."—ln a case against Michael Brown, charged with using insulting language towards L. Billinghurst, an adjournment till January sth was granted. Mr Brookfield appeared for the complainant and Mr Lundon for the defence.
