Explosion, who sports the colours of Mr L. D. Nathan, has improved since he rau at the Spring Meeting in November, and his recent tasks show that he stays really well. Hylas is another that has gone on the right way. My place selection therefore must be:—Mr Stead's representative, 1 ; Explosion, 2; Hylas, 3. The Auckland Cup of l.OOOsovs. Two miles. Horse. Weight. Pyroxylin .. ..6 7.. If any reliance is to be placed on track form, Coronet, St. Paul, Antares and Daystar each have prosj-ects of an encouraging order. Then we have to add Waiuku, on the strength of his New Zealand Cup victoiy. while there is also the privately trained Fabulist to be taken into consideration.- The race therefore bears a more opencharacter than appeared at first blush. Waiu/cu's effort in the big Uieearton eventwas a really good one, and ifc is generally agreed hy those who witnessed the race that he finished so strongly as to convey i the impression of the St. Leger horse being lan out and out stayer. St. Paul has, come through the ordeal of a great preparation, and it is agreed on all hinds that he will take an immensity of beating. Waiuku and St. Paul finished so close together in the New Zealand Cup that wherever one is the other will be in close proximity. The question is : Can Waiuku give St. Paul seven pounds over two miles ? One is a fine strong horse up to any weight, while the other is not of such big conformation. However, what he lacks in size, he | makes up for by being a game generous colt when silks are rustling andwhips cracking. Fabulist should run a good race; still I don't think he can beat St. Paul. On the New Zealand Cup running, Daystar meets Waiuku and St. Paul on much betterterms, a fact which should not be . lost sight of. A soft track would no doubt cause a rush to set in for the Castor horse, hut in any case if he only keeps sound during the running of the race, he may have to be reckoned with before the possession of the rich stake is finally determined. J Both Antares and Coronet have acquitted I themselves well in their training track •1 efforts, and both finish up so strongly that J they convey the impression of being I stayers. It may be that one of those I have not mentioned is destined to drop from the clouds, but after summing up the whole question fairly and squarely I will declare for :— St. Paul 1 Waiuku 2 .1 Coronet 3 I E___._c__p Hurdle Race of ISOsovs. Two . miles. 1 ~,' stlb stlb 1 W-ho .. ..ll 8 Miss Nelson ..10 12 I w-west.. ..11 7 Bombardier ..10 7 I tevanter .. .. 11 0 I ■ The two top weights should fight out I th. finish.
