The Summer Meeting of the Thames Jockey Club eventuates on Monday and Tuesday, and promises to be successful. Rain fell last night and greatly improved the course.
Mr George Wilson, Inspecting Engineer for Mines, arrived here last evening.
William Clarke, an old identity, died last night. He has suffered for many years from a miner's complaint. He has been resident at the Thames since the opening of the field. The County Council has decided to call for tenders for extending the Puru Creek Road to the Puru Consolidated Company's battery. The tender of Mr R. Twentyman, £129, has been accepted for the erection of the new public assay office, in connection with the School of Mines.
The principal mines close down to-day for the holidays.
