A CANADIAN OPINION ON NEW ZEALAND.

A BRIGHT OUTLOOK,

SYDNEY, December 20. Mr J. S. Larke, agent for the Canadian Government in Sydney, interviewed with reference to his visit to New Zealand, said he considered New Zealand had a great trading future before it. Trade, he said, was improving, and the Government were putting the lands into the hands of the small farmers. This is leading to what were before merely pastoral areas being devoted to agriculture. He was struck with the great capabilities of New Zealand as a fruitgrowing colony. He thought the colony appeared to be getting really prosperous, and there was no sign of people out of work. All the factories were very busy. Mining was being largely developed with excellent prospects. Business men show a great desire to cultivate trade with Canada as part of an Imperial trade policy. He had heard concern expressed on behalf of capital with regard to the Radical trend of legislation, but as far as was visible nothing was apparently resulting from legislation likely to injure the growth of New Zealand.
