AUCKLAND RACING CLUB SUMMER MEETING.

THIS MORNING'S TRAINING NOTES

A great crowd of touts assembled at the Ellerslie Racecourse this morning to watch the final gallops. Lady Marion and Eton were galloped in company before four o'clock. At this time it was almost dark. St. Paul got through long medium pace work. Daystar was galloped over a mile and a half, pulling up sound. With a light boy in the saddle, Nestor was worked over two miles on the tan, Miss Nelson bringing him home in the last part of the journey. Gold Medallist moved freely in a mile and a half gallop apportioned him. Conqueror showed to advantage over Altair at the end of six furlongs. Multiform cantered. He is still sore. Waiuku made his appearance. He looks bright and well. His trainer restricted him to a light task ou the plough. Antares and Panoply performed long medium pace work, while Coronet did strong work, and finished up his task well. Kiugswood, Levanter and Tally-ho (in company) strode over a couple of rounds on the plough. Nor' West was sent strong work, acquitting himself well. Canopus was galloped over a mile and a half on the plough. Mozel, Retaliation, Hylas, Explosion, Ilex, Fair Nell, Waiorongomai, Blue Jacket, Porangi Potae, Hermosa, and a number of other horses were also Avorked.

To-day there were offers to take s's to 1 about Waiuku for the Cup, while a 1,000 to 80 Antares was wanted. A wager of 100 to 10 was laid against Coronet. Quotations are as follows :—5 to 2 v. St. Paul, 4 to 1 v. Waiuku, 5 to 1 v. Daystar, S to 1 v. Nestor and Fabulist, 10 to 1 v. Coronet, 12 to 1 v. Antares and Favona, 16 to 1 v. Panoply. E. Russell will ride Waiuku in the Cup.

It was the general opinion at Ellerslie this morning that Mr Stead's two-year-old colts Conqueror and Altair are a pair of smashers, and that they are far superior to anything of their age locally owned. Good time was made in their work over six fur-
