NORTHERN COMPANY'S MOVEMENTS.
Friday. —Clansman arrives from Russell at 6 a.m. : Waiotahi arrives from Tauranga and Opotiki; Chelmsford leaves for Waiheke at 9 a.m., and returns about 5 p.m.; Wellington arrives from Whangarei; lona arrives from Kuaotunn, Mercury Bay and Kennedy's Bay ; Glenelg arrives from New Plymouth, Opunake and Wanganui.
The s.s. Poherua left for Westport last evening.
Last evening the s.s. Pareora sailed for Greymouth.
Last evening the Linda Weber finished the discharge of her cargo of copra into the Pleione. She will sail for the Cook Group early next month.
The auxiliary schooner Medora, which left for the North on Monday evening, returned to port last night, having lost her propeller when off Whangarei.
The R.M.s. Alameda arrives from Sydney to-morrow. She leaves for Apia, Honolulu and 'Frisco on Saturday at 2 o'clock with the outward 'Frisco mail.
The Tyser liner Star of Victoria left Sydney for Auckland yesterday, and should arrive here on Monday next.' Mr A. H. Nathan is the local agent for the steamer.
Captain Sargeant, of the ship Pleione, has resigned his command and goes to his home in Nelson. Captain C. Wood, late chief officer of the vessel, succeeds him as master.
Mr W. Logan, jiuir., i s making good progress with the new steamer for the Wade and Matakana trade. The vessel has all her iron beams in and her diagonal planking is about completed. She is expected to take up the running some time in February.
The s.s. Flora arrived from Southern ports at 11.30 a.m. to-day. She left Dunedin at 4 p.m. on the 17th inst., called at Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne, leaving the latter port at 10.45 a.m. on the 22nd, arriving as above ; had line weather throughout.
The New Zealand Shipping Company have received advice that the s.s. Banffshire will load at Auckland about the middle of January. This fine steamer of the latest modern type is now well-known in New Zealand waters. She is a vessel of S,OOO tons displacement and possesses a high fate .of speed enabling her to make the passage to London in 45 to 47 days.
