WELLINGTON, this day.
Sergeant Villers, who was some time ago stabbed whilst in the execution of his duty at Wanganui, and was an inmate of the Wellington Hospital for some time in consequence of injuries received, has retired irom the police force, and has been awarded one year's salary. Mr T. Poutawera, who has been in the Native Land Court Office here for ten years past, and was well-known in athletic circles, died last night of cancer. He was a chief of the Ngapuhi tribe, Bay of Islands.
