AUCKLAND LIEDERTAFEL.
The concerts given by the members of the Auckland Liedertafel are invariably successful, and the fourth one of the season was attended in the Choral Hall last evening by a large audience, and it is safe to say that all present thoroughly enjoyed the musical programme provided for their entertainment. Mr Arthur Towsey officiated as conductor with his accustomed ability, and the concerted numbers were sung in excellent style. " The Battle Prayer," by Storge, a new item, waa weli rendered. The other pieces have all been. previously sung by the ;l|isfl(Jjrtafel, and, as the best ones had been selected for this concert, were very well given. ;> The list included "Love Reigneth Over All," " Warrior's Song," "Going Away," "The Long Day Closes," " Hark the Merry Drum," "An Italian Salad," and "Evening." The latter was a most beautiful item, the solo being taken in capital style by Mr G. M. Reid, who was encored. The solo in the "Italian Salad" was well sung by Mr M. Tremvith. Herr Zimmermann played two soli on the violin, the second being Bach's air on the G. string. Mr F. Innes played an admirable solo on the flute. Miss Thorpe accompanied Herr Zimmermann and Mr Towsey officiated in a similar capacity for the flautist. Miss Mary Day was the only lady vocalist and her two songs, " The Flight of Ages" and " By the Fountain," were consequently a pleasing change in the programme, and an encore was demanded for the second number. The song " Bid Me to Love " was sung in masterly style by Mr G. M. Reid, an obligate on the violin beingplayed by Herr Zimmermann. Mr W. George contributed " Friend of the Brave." An enjoyable concert was concluded by singing the National Anthem.
