CHRISTCHURCH, November 26. f The local wool sales opened to-day. The catalogue comprised 9,803 bales, of which 6,522 were 'sold, as against 5,861 entered at the opening sale last year, when 4,349 were sold. All the usual local and foreign buyers were present. The bulk of the entry was faulty and gritty wool, owing to the very dry season. The sale opened badly for all sorts, but soon the better classes of strong and fine wools regained their position, and sold at well up to the E rices ruling at the same sale last year, ut the poorer sorts were from £d to Id lower. Best merino, 6Jsd to 7^d ; inferior, 4fd to 6d ; half-bred, super, "7£d to 8d; medium, 6fd to 7Jd ; inferior, s£d to 6^d ; crossbred, super, 7d to 7Jd; medium, 6^d to 6|d; inferior, 5d to s£d; longwool, super, 6fd to 7£d ; medium, 6d to 6£d ; inferior, 5d to s|d ; pieces and bellies, good, 4d to 6d; inferior, 2d to 3|d ; and locks, Id to 3Jd.
