SUICIDE OF A LUNATIC.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, Friday.
Finest H. Corney, a patient at the Lunatic Asylum, committed suicide by hanging himself under the staircase.
At the inquest it appeared that deceased was suffering from simple melancholia. Recently he received a letter from his sweetheart, begging him to get well and return, which evidently preyed on his mind. He was only left for a few minutes, and hanged himself with a strap from his waist Dr. Hassall said the asylum was overcrowded by at least 100. patients, and the present number of attendants was the very least they could do with. There ought to be a separate institution for imbeciles and epileptics. The day rooms were being used as dormitories. A verdict of suicide while of unsound mind was returned.
