THAMES, this day.
May Queen. —Operations were at a standstill yesterday in consequence of the water having risen owing to a recent temporary suspension of operations at the big pump for alterations. It is probable that the pump will resume work to-night. Cumberland (Karaka). —Work in this miue has been resumed with two men under the supervision of Mr J. Bowler. A start has been made to drive on the commercial reef from the main tunnel. This as yet is the only work in progress. Caspian.—The Vale of Avoca reef is expected to shortly come to hand as the present face of the drive is considerably past the vertical measurement from the surface. This will give 200 ft of backs.
