AUCKLAND HEADS THE LIST.

The total value of imports into New Zealand during the quarter ended 30th September was £2,094,301 as against £2,050,056 for the corresponding quarter of last year. The contributions in the various centres were as follows: — Auckland £588,395 Wellington 480,827 Christchurch .- ... 356,945 Dunedin 398,589 The value of the exports for the September quarter was £1,513,289 as against £1,334,473. The value of gold exported from NeAV Zealand during the September quarter, 1897, was £232,844, the returns lor the Auckland district being by far the largest. For the corresponding quarter of 1896 the figures were £302,974. The Customs and excise duties collected at the several ports of New Zealand during the quarter ended 30th September, 1897, amounted to £518,991, as against £491,772 for the corresponding period of 1896. Auckland showed the largest returns.
