\ (By Telegraph.-^pMeks. Association.)
CHRISTCHTJRCH, Monday.
Tlie Governor held a levee in the old Chamber this afternoon, 177 gentlemen being presented. The Garrison Band had'been ordered to attend, but only four members appeared. To-night His Excellency and Lady Ranfurly are being entertained by the .citizens at a conversaaone, which is being very largely attended and is a brilliant success.
The Governor presented the certificates won during the year by the members of the local branch of the St. John Ambulance Association. In making the presentations he referred to the origin of the parent branch, of which he is a member, and expressed his pleasure at so many policemen taking certificates. He pointed oiit the necessity for this branch of the work being taken up by the force generally, as rendering first aid prevented many accidents terminating fatally.
