ENGINEERS' STRIKE.
CONFERENCE NEGOTIATIONS,
LONDON, November 7.
The Employers' Federation demands as one condition for the holding of a conference that the strike notices issued by the London branch of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers shall be unconditionally withdrawn, and that the question as to hours of labour shall be discussed upon defined lines, each side to appoint its own chairman.
In disproof of recent statements on the part of the Engineers' Society, the engineering employers, have issued a statement showing that the action of the Unionists has resulted in the restriction of the output and in interference in the management of the workshops. The Unionists insist upon the appointment of a neutral chairman to preside over the proposed Conference.
DUNEDIN, Sunday.
Inclement weather probably interfered with the Trades Union display in support of the engineers on strike in Britain for eight hours. About 400 were present at Saturday's meeting and 600 to-day. The collection amounted to £25 19s Cd.
