WRECK OF A BARQUE.
THE SURVIVORS AT DUNEDIN.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, Friday.
The barque Nor'-wester, from Maiden Island, arrived to-day. She has on board Captain and Mrs Davidson, and eleven seamen of the wrecked American ship Commodore. Captain Davidson positively declines to give any information about the wreck until the matter is investigated by the American Consul here. The Commodore was on her voyage from San Francisco to New York, via Honolulu. She has 3,100 tons of sugar from Honolulu. She experienced fine weather, but was finally wrecked at Maiden Island. [The Commodore • was wrecked on September 3rd while on her way from Honolulu to New York. She struck a reef off Maiden Island and became a total wreck. The second officer and seven of the crew were taken on to Melbourne by a schooner, arriving there last Monday. The captain and his wife, together with the rest of the crew, remained on the island awaiting the arrival of a steamer to carry them to New Zealand. Apparently when the Nor'wester put in an appearance at Maiden Island they. decided to come on by the sailing vessel.]
