SONG, STAGE, AND STORY.
The Paulton-Stanley Company concluded their Auckland season last Saturday night with a performance of 'Niobe.' The revival was a complete success, Mr Paulton's dry humour in the role of Peter Amos Dunn being very effective. The company are now appearing in Wellington, after which they proceed south to Christchurch and Dunedin. 'Two Little Vagabonds,' a play by G. R. Sims and Arthur Shirley, is at present being staged at Her Majesty's, Sydney. In the cast are Mr George Titheradge, Miss Lily Titheradge, Miss Emily Hughes, and Mr Howard Vernon. At Brisbane, Madame Amy Sherwin has been attracting large audiences to the Centennial Hall. At the Opera House, Grattan Riggs is appearing in The Shaughraun.' Bracy's Opera Company has been playing 'The Sultan of Mocha' to good houses at the Adelaide Theatre Eoyal. At the Bijou, Mr Frank Thornton is doing good business with 'The Private Secretary.' Many people think that Miss Ada Eehan, who it is announced is to visit Australia next year under the aegis of 'the Firm,' is an American, but she was born in Limerick, Ireland, of which place her parents were natives. Her father, at one time a prosperous shipbuilder, meeting with reverses the family sailed for New York, taking with them the little Ada, then a mite of six. Her real name is Regan but on one occasion it got by mistake printed Eehan, and she at once adopted the latter for stage purposes. Mr Harry Rickards, in engaging 'Biondi' for Australia has secured one of the most novel entertainers in the world. Biondi* is an entire theatrical company in himself. At a London theatre every evening he plays a comedy sketch entitled 'Scandal in a Restaurant.' There are six characters in the piece—a waiter, a husband and wife, an adventuress, an organ grinder and a policeman. And Biondi impersonates them all.
