SUBMARINE DEFENCES.
ARRIVAL OF AN ENGLISH
OFFICER.
Among the arrivals by the Xtimutaki from London yesterday was Captain Coyle, late of the Koyal Engineers, who takes charge of the submarine defences throughout the colony. He has had 30 years' experience in the Royal Engineers, and was in command latterly of the extensive submarine defences at Dundee. Captain Coyle will be stationed at Wellington, and Capt. Falconer, who has hitherto been in charge of the department, will be placed at the head of the Auckland Torpedo Station.
